>>Do you (plural) think the current rules for registration of domain names in >>Australia provide either a fair means of allocating domain names or a means > >of avoiding disputes under trade marks or passing-off laws? > >the issue of the DNS avoiding disputes under trademark or passing off laws >is a red herring. Trademark owners do not 'own' names exclusively. This is very correct. Might I suggest someone approach David Wright from the ACCC and formally invite them into this process. He can offern much valuable advice. Mind you, he'll hate me for suggesting such! But he is quite brilliant and really knows his stuff - Law and is very rapidly learning about DNS! Apart from the fact he is extremely busy, an invitation to participate and well constructed questions or statements woudl provide David with a very easy channel to educate us. Lets see if for once everyone can work towards one goal, rather than scattering flakt everywhere.
