Today I received the following spam (http://www.caube.org.au/whatis.htm)
from NetRegistry

The email address "nic-billing§auspost.com.au" appears in the AUNIC database
(NIC handle NA263-AU) and other whois databases (whois.inww.com &
whois.networksolutions.com).  The sole function of this email address is for
domain name billing purposes only.

NetRegistry's privacy policy suggests that people must Opt-in to their
mailing lists (http://www.netregistry.com.au/legal/privacy.html), which is
obviously not the case in this situation.

The fact that NetRegistry hosts the AUNIC database and are also using it (or
other whois databases) for their direct email campaigns might imply a
conflict of interest.

I am very interested in both of your views on this matter.
