With all due respect to Robert, it is not his vision of "preserve" that necessarily holds sway. The panel recommendations are the result of an open, transparent and inclusive process. Its hardly worth having these processes if a single individual can derail the process by saying, "Yes, but that's not what _I_ want". Robert has not chosen to express his concerns in the appropriate forum. He choses rather to remain unresponsive, but expects to have his concerns addressed when he choses to express them. Unfortunately, the world has taken a view on this totalitarian vision of progress. It's not democratic, accountable or even fair. Robert Elz's vision of DNS in Australia is no longer relevant. I'm not saying its wrong, or bad, its just not the vision that has been derived from the inclusive process that has been in place for well over 3 years now. He (and all stakeholders) have had ample opportunity to have their views heard, debated and decided upon. He chose not to participate. That choice limits the degree to which his views should now be considered. Right or wrong, Robert Elz is no longer relevant. History just has to catch up. The statements in the media release indicate that auDA has given no consideration at all to the views Robert has previously published regarding his approach to .AU management, that is to preserve the .AU name space for future generations of Australian netizens. AuDA's expressed policy of selling generic domain names, opening up id.au to individual registrants and creating new 2LDs all flies in the face of Robert's existing policy. I would fully support Robert Elz should he attempt to maintain the status quo while his concerns were addressed. ..Richard. -- This article is not to be reproduced or quoted beyond this forum without express permission of the author. 351 subscribers.
