Hello All, auDA has just released their budget for the 2002 financial year. See http://www.auda.org.au/budget/index.html The operating expenses for 1 July 2001 to 30 June 2002 are $903,163 compared to $747,464 for the corresponding period last year. The additional expenses for reforming the ".au" space are $354,000. auDA has published correspondence between Melbourne IT and auDA on this issue. Melbourne IT (see http://www.auda.org.au/budget/MIT_offer_21-9-01.pdf) notes that the cost of regulation in this domain name industry is of the same order (within a factor of 2) as the cost of the ACIF self regulator for the telecomms industry which is 1000 times the size of the domain name industry. Melbourne IT believes that the budget should be subject to a public comment period as is usual for the ICANN budget. The auDA announcement does not seek public comment, but if you have any comments I recommend they be sent to Jo Lim (jo.lim§auda.org.au) with a copy to this list (assuming that this is the only public forum on this issue).
