Judge lets .biz take first step online
Web surfers will be able to reach most new Internet addresses ending
in .biz next Monday, but some other names could be held up if a Los
Angeles judge decides the process of allocating the names is illegal.

COURT ALLOWS ROUND ONE OF DOT-BIZ BUT ROLLOUT STILL DELAYED 
The first courtroom showdown between .biz sponsor NeuLevel and
unhappy plaintiffs who charge it is running an illegal lottery has
proven inconclusive. The trial judge has declined to block the first
batch of domain names originally set to go live Oct. 1 and said he
wanted more information before deciding whether to block the second
batch. Disgruntled applicants filed suit against NeuLevel in July,
charging it was running an illegal lottery by collecting money for
the chance to win a desirable names. Last night, however, NeuLevel
announced that it was delaying the first batch rollout until October
23rd, leaving the entire process even more confused.

ICANN TO FOCUS ON SECURITY AT ANNUAL MEETING ICANN is planning to
devote its annual meeting scheduled for November 13-15 to assessing
the security of the domain name system crucial to directing Web
traffic and e-mail and how to respond to any threats. Previously, the
agenda was expected to include the .pro domain name and procedures
for electing board members.

DOT-UK INTRODUCES NEW RULES
The Register reports that new UK domain rules that were implemented
last Monday. The article states that the most important changes are
the introduction of independent judges, improved transparency and a
rewording of the rules to step away from issues of confusion over
domains and towards abusive registrations.
