> - What gives auDA the right to SPAM me on behalf of Melb IT. auDA is communicating with the registered contact of domain name holders on its own behalf, not on behalf of Melbourne IT. auDA is a Regulatory Authority (analogous to ASIC, or to the relevant State Govt departments which register business names), and its common practice for entities such as these to communicate directly with their registrants if they believe it to be the best way to provide the Registrant with important information. In fact, there's probably more support for a line of argument that auDA should have communicated directly with Registrants more often in the past than it has done. Certainly I receive information directly from the Department of Fair Trading regarding names they have issued me. > - Why was this not sent out in the post from a government department like > with electricity and telecommunications Because auDA is the relevant regulatory authority for .au domain names, so they send the information out. Just as ASIC sends information directly to me - they don't give it to the electricity company to send out for them.
