Top ICANN Registrar Statistic

Extended Period for Comments on GNSO Whois Task Force
Report
The Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) has
extended the time for comment on the Whois Task Force's
Policy Report on Whois Accuracy and Bulk Access. The report
contains consensus policy recommendations as well as advice

ICANN ccNSO Assistance Group Preliminary Recommendation on
ccNSO Council (For Comment and Feedback)
Comments will be most useful if they are made by 14 January
2003. Consistent with the 29 October 2002 ccNSO Assistance
Group Communiqué, the Assistance Group has prepared its
preliminary recommendation on the ccNSO Council. The
Assistance Group requests feedback within the coming two
weeks (until 14 January 2003) for comments to be given
utmost consideration. The preliminary recommendation on the
Council can be found in Annex A. The ccNSO Assistance Group
will consider feedback received on this preliminary
recommendation and its effect on other recommendations.

Court Punts Sex.com Domain Case
A dispute over the transfer of the domain name Sex.com may
be heading to California's highest court. In a decision
published Friday, a panel of federal appellate judges asked
the California Supreme Court to weigh in on the question of
whether traditional property conversion laws should apply
to Internet domain names.

PIR Takes Over .Org Domain
The Public Interest Registry (PIR) assumed control Jan. 1
of the .org top-level domain registry from VeriSign Global
Registry Services (Quote, Company Info) to begin the
largest transfer of data from one registry to another in
the history of the Internet. In April of last year, the
ICANN Board of Directors selected PIR, the not-for-profit
subsidiary of the Internet Society (ISOC)of Reston, Va., to
operate the registry.
