Well the vendor is a bit dense, viz in reply to query "I didn't know they can't be 
transferred. I suppose I could cancel my registration of the name then reregister in

But looking at the registrar's web site (at 
https://www.enetica.com.au/register.cgi?action=reg_transfer)
I see that it is possible to apply to transfer a domain name with not many questions 
asked. Is this kosher or have the rules relating .au changed whilst I wasn't looking?

It will be recalled that this registrar some time ago quite happily allowed the inward 
transfer of a domain name from MIT even though the registrant did not exist as an 
entity and the applicant had no authority. There is at least one domain registered with 
that registrar after the transfer incident that has a registrant name and details  that 
are completely fictitious - this after the registrar told auDA it could never happen 
again.
