Chinese Demand Sees Over 1 Million New gTLD Domains Registered In 4 Days With Total Registrations Almost 14 Million

There was a huge growth in the registrations of domain names in new gTLDs largely driven by registrations in China that saw 1.2 million domains registered in just four days, from 14 to 18 February according to figures compiled by nTLDstats.com. The massive growth took total registrations to 13.898 million as of 19 February.

Internet Society Study Provides New Insight into Mobile Internet Use in Asia-Pacific

The Internet Society?s Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau today released the findings of a study that explores the behaviors and preferences of mobile Internet users in the region. While the results of the online survey highlight the extent to which the Internet has become a mobile phenomenon -- with half of those surveyed using mobile as their main means of online access -- it also highlights that the shift in using the mobile Internet for purposes other than basic communication is yet to happen.

Sneaky Change to the TPP Drastically Extends Criminal Penalties

When the text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was first released in November last year, it included provisions dictating the kinds of penalties that should be available in cases of copyright infringement. Amongst those provisions, the following footnote allowed countries some flexibility in applying criminal procedures and penalties to cases of willful copyright infringement on a commercial scale:
