Without disregarding with the thrust of Richard's argument: .CO.AU is only one character removed from .COM.AU. Is this not asking for confusion? For example, "is that URL on the bottom of that TV ad www.myfirm.com.au or www.myfirm.co.au?" This potential for confusion is just as likely to disuade firms from registering with the alternative commercial second-level domain as is the PR consequences of .BIZ.AU. -- Regarding company name dispute resolution: Given Australia has a small number of states (unlike the US), and thus a small number company name registers, perhaps the DNS name should include a company register identifier? This would move disputes over names out of the DNS arena entirely. If this is not possible, then should the x-IA should be lobbying the government for legislation to protect DNS registering bodies from litigation? -- glen.turner§itd.adelaide.edu.au Network Support Specialist Tel: (08) 8303 3936 Information Technology Division Fax: (08) 8303 4400 University of Adelaide SA 5005Received on Tue Dec 03 1996 - 17:00:41 UTC
